A New Mac Pro on the Horizon?

According to an anonymous source, the Mac Pro will get a facelift and have its stomach stapled. By that, I mean it will get skinnier, have its hardware messed with, and be redesigned externally. This rumored Mac Pro will have vents on top to allow hot air to escape, it will be smaller, and it will rip holes right through the universe at the push of a button(I just made that last part up...its actually a couple of buttons that you have to press). Will it arrive at WWDC? Is it the "Mac Pro/Power Mac Mini" that people have been talking about years? Will it be equipt with Blu-Ray support? Let us pray.

No Videos for The Next 2 Weeks

Sorry, I won't be able to post videos for about the next 2 weeks because I sold my Macbook to upgrade to the Macbook Pro. I'm hoping that I will get it within 2 weeks. I will, however, be able to add new posts, just no videos. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A Real Macbook Nano to Arrive at WWDC?

Rumor has it that at WWDC, Apple will re-enter the sub-notebook business by releasing a new notebook that is apparently smaller than the 12" Powerbook. This notebook(I'll just call it the Macbook Nano), will feature a SSD, instead of a HDD to consume less power and space. Also, it may not even have an internal disc drive. Maybe that will just be an excuse you can use to buy an external Blu-Ray drive ;) . This Macbook Nano is aimed towards the Japanese market(they like everything small over there...), where Apple isn't doing too hot with sales.

The reason for the crudeness of the drawing and the lack of an actual picture are do to the shit that this "artist" would be in if Apple found out an actual picture was leaked.

"Another one of those chatty Cathy Taiwan industry sources has leaked some information regarding a possible 15.4-inch MacBook release. This 15.4-inch MacBook is being made by Quanta Computer (the 13.3-inch MacBooks are made by Asustek) and is slated for a second quarter release. It is also being rumored that the price for this 15.4-inch MacBook will be more competitively priced because of the reduced cost of 15.4-inch LCD screens. No word on the specs, but I would imagine that they would remain the same."

Intel Demonstrates 80-core Processor

"Now that the Megahertz race has faded into the distance (we hear it was a myth), Intel is well and truly kicking off the start of a multi-core war with the demonstration of an 80-core research processor in San Francisco last week. It's not the first multi-core processor to reach double figures -- a company called ClearSpeed put 96 cores onto one of its CPUs -- but it's the first to be accompanied by the aim of making it generally available; an aim that Intel hopes to realize within a five year timeframe. The long time frame is required because current operating systems and software don't take full advantage of the benefits of multi-core processors. In order for Intel to successfully market processors with CPUs that have more than say, 4 cores, there needs to be an equal effort from software programmers, which is why producing an 80-core processor is only half the battle. On paper, 80-cores sounds impressive, but when the software isn't doing anything imaginative with them it's actually rather disappointing: during a demonstration, Intel could only manage to get 1 Teraflop out of the chip, a figure which many medium- to high-end graphics cards are easily capable of. The multi-core war may have begun, but the battle will be fought with software, although that's not to say that the hardware side has already been won: apparently the test chip is much larger than equivalent chips -- 275 mm squared, versus a typical Core 2 Duo's 143 mm squared -- and Intel currently has no way to hook up memory to the chip. Hopefully half a decade should be long enough to sort out these issues."
